Early Morning Thoughts...

Carmen will ~ out of the blue and completely unrelated to anything we are currently saying or doing ~ tell us, "My Papa is a storyteller."

Jake and I always smile at each other, and then ask her questions about her Papa's storytelling, and how much it means to her. It's obviously something she holds very dear in her heart.

And when we were playing at Da'Vida, she asked about *That Other Guy*, a.k.a. Sam. And then she told Jake and I, "That other guy is fun to play with."

If you were Sam's friend on MySpace, you would see that he changed his name to read:

sam (that other guy)

This blog will chronicle the joyful adventures of free children Carmen and Jake.

Here's the story of how the Universe brought them together...

While kayaking on our river (the upper Delaware River, on whose shores we have a cozy cabin) in August (2007), our always unschooled family was talking about many things, as we always do, and the subject of siblings and babies came up. Jake (16 at the time...always unschooled and born 9/1990)voiced a desire I knew that he had...a desire for a little sister! We put that desire in front of us to see what we could do with it. We stretched our minds and our lives and our worlds to see how we could fulfill that desire, but came up with nothing at that time. We left it, trusting that the Universe would some how provide to Jake what he desired.

The next day, while at the shopping mall, Jake talked about his long list of things that he wanted to buy. Everything that my children are drawn to buying is something that is necessary in their unschooling lives, in their paths of learning and living. They learn from the world. They learn from following their hearts, their interests, their passions, their quesitons, and their answers. So his "list" of things to buy, therefore, comprised of things that he desired in order to fully follow that which was in his heart.

Once again, Dave and I provide what we are able to provide, and we Trust in the Universe and in the power of our own minds and hearts to attract what we need and desire into our lives.

For some spiritually powerful people like Jake, it doesn't take long to attract those desires (I have always told him that he is spiritually powerful and needs to be careful about how he uses that power!...like that Christmas Eve when we had no snow and he casually said, not realizing the power of his thoughts, "I wish we would have a white Christmas!" And then the Universe gifted him ~ and the entire northeast coast ~ with a storm that left us with over 3 feet of snow... ;)!

The following day, a friend of mine whom the Universe has put in my life for numerous reasons already, and many more to come, I'm sure, talked to me about caring for her 3 year old child while she returns to work teaching at college. While I absolutely LOVE this child and consider her to be a friend of mine, too, my heart immediately rejected the possibility, as my full, rich life was already overflowing and I already had no time for all that I felt I needed or wanted to do.

She looked at me and said, "There's no one else in the WORLD that I want taking care of Carmen."

Wow. I was honored...and frankly, I also completely agreed with her. Carmen is an amazing child and is much like Jake was at that age. Carmen needed someone who could not only keep up with her intellectual needs, but who would completely honor Who She Is and celebrate that, instead of trying to get her to be someone else's idea of what a child should be like.

With that new weight added, I told Carmen's Mama that I would talk to Jake and Sam about it and get back to her.

As I got in my car to drive home to discuss it with my boys, the narrow vision from which I was seeing this new path in life was broadened and the light Shone through so brightly that the Truth of it almost blinded me!! This is exactly the two things Jake had been *wishing* for just two days ago. A little sister AND an income.

My heart started racing and while I was reluctant before to go home and talk to my boys about MY caring for a child, albeit a child they knew and loved, now I was excited to put the answer to Jake's desires in front of him and see what he wanted to do with it.

I walked in the door and sat down in front of him and said, "Would you like to take care of Carmen two days a week for half a day?"

No hesitation whatsoever.

"Yes!!"

Here it was. All that he had wanted, provided to him because he expressed exactly what it was he required in the world to live a full, rich life...

And, as we know to be True from our own experiences in our lives, when that which is provided to you blesses other people and the entire world, you KNOW it is meant to be. All is exactly as it is meant to be.

I went back to Carmen's Mom and asked if she would be comfortable with this being Jake's job, and yet I would be there with them always, too.

She was.

And, obviously, this plan was good with Carmen, too.

We are drop-down-on-our-knees thankful for the Universe's gifts, and we continue to walk forward every day in complete gratitude and Trust.

And Jake was singing a Joyful Song later that day:

"Yeah, yeah...I have a job! I get to play with Carmen! I have exactly what I was looking for!!!"

All is Truly Well.
